Last weekend was Homecoming at Valparaiso University. I had the opportunity to attend a dinner for donors who include the University in their estate planning. At the dinner, David Novak, the Director of Gift Planning at VU, posed two important questions to think about in your philanthropy:
- First, what brings you joy?
- Once you know this, how do you want to share it?
It seems ironic that the thought process of your philanthropy would start with what makes you happy, but it really is a necessary component of joyful giving. When you feel fulfilled, you will be motivated to understand the issues and to search out organizations that share your views.
